Chesterfield Amateur Boxing Club receive knockout donation
Chesterfield Amateur Boxing Club (ABC) has received a total donation of £734 from our Community Support Scheme to purchase floor safety mats and weigh-in scales.
The club, which is based in Danesmoor, Chesterfield, was established in 1979 and has grown to be a hugely successful organisation. With over 50 members training several times a week from the age of 9 upwards, the group offers excellent and affordable coaching in their community, and organises regular outreach sessions at local schools to encourage more young people to take up boxing.
Eddie Jarvis, Treasurer at Chesterfield ABC, said ‘We encourage members to experience the benefits of boxing and take part in local and national competitions, with some having competed for England in international tournaments. Yet we couldn’t provide the training we do without our dedicated volunteers and qualified coaches who give up their time to offer people the chance to learn a new skill and build their confidence and self-discipline. We are incredibly grateful to organisations like The Mansfield Building Society who support their community and realise the importance of local sports groups. Their funding has allowed us to purchase equipment which helps to ensure our training is safe and effective and remains affordable to all’.
Jill Watson, Risk and Compliance Executive, visited the club and said ‘When the club started many years ago my father, Jim Brady, was one of the founding members, along with Richard Walker who still helps out at the club. My brother, David Brady, was also involved with the Club for many years. To be able to see the place where they trained still providing coaching today, and to be able to support them in their work through our Community Support Scheme is really special. I hope that the equipment we have funded can be used by members both now and in the future to help as many local people as possible learn not only boxing, but also the life skills that come from working with such dedicated coaches’.
Our Community Support Scheme funds local groups and organisations in Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire and meets twice yearly in May and November to consider applications. To find out more or to download an application form click here.
