Junior badminton club hits a winner with new rackets

Mansfield Junior Badminton Club has purchased 20 new badminton rackets with the help of a £400 donation from the Society’s Community Support Scheme.

Mansfield Juniors is a badminton club aimed specifically at young people in the Mansfield area aged 9 to 17. The club provides an opportunity for young people to develop and hone their skills in the sport of badminton through expert coaching and taking part in various competitions. Many members of the club have reached league and county level, with some even playing at a national standard.

The badminton club applied to our Community Support Scheme asking if we would help towards covering the costs of acquiring badminton rackets for its members.  The equipment will give the groups' newer members the opportunity to get a better feel for the sport by using new rackets.

Girish Ravat, coach at the club said “The Mansfield has provided more young people with the opportunity to play badminton. This is great news for us and the young people in the area as we can now accommodate new members and provide them with good quality equipment. The donation will help for many years to come.”

Richard Crisp, Commercial Development Executive at the Society visited Mansfield Junior Badminton Club and commented “It’s great to know our Community Support Scheme is helping young people get into sport in the local area. It is important that youngsters who want to try a new sport have that opportunity available to them. And with the new rackets, more young people can enjoy playing badminton.”

The donation was made through our Community Support Scheme which funds local groups and organisations in Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire and meets twice yearly in May and November to consider applications. To find out more or to download an application form click here.

Mansfield Junior Badminton Club meets at the Manor Leisure Centre in Mansfield Woodhouse on Friday evenings starting at 18:00. For more information visit their website here.
