The charity, based in Bolsover, focuses on supporting local disadvantaged communities across North Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire which are struggling with issues such as unemployment, debt and housing problems.

The charity’s foodbank currently provides around 3,800 free food parcels per year to those struggling to provide for themselves and/or their family.

Mark North, CEO of Freedom Community Project said:

“Thank you to Mansfield Building Society for their generous donation which will help make a difference to many people who depend on our Foodbank.  The current Coronavirus pandemic has amplified the constraints on people’s financial circumstances, particularly for those who were already in a vulnerable position.

Freedom’s mission is to provide low cost or free activities to support people who are living in deprived areas.  There’s no judgement here, we just want to support people to help make a change in their lives for a better future.”

Laura-Beth Hibbins, Branch Customer Advisor at our Chesterfield Branch, said:

“It was lovely to go down and meet the team working so hard at Freedom Community Project.  The atmosphere was friendly and welcoming, and we came away inspired to continue to collect further donations in our branches.

We understand that COVID-19 will have had a great impact on many families and we’re very proud to make these donations to help ease the stresses of those worried about where their next meal may come from.”
