Vale Common Allotment and Leisure Gardeners’ Society clean up
The Vale Common Allotment and Gardeners’ Society can now use more of its allotment space to grow new fruit and vegetables thanks to a £210 donation from our Community Support Scheme.
Vale Common Allotment and Leisure Gardeners’ Society manages a site on Common Lane in Mansfield Woodhouse. The site is run for the benefit of its members and local families with the aim of promoting allotment gardening and developing a deeper understanding of sustainable local gardening.
Vale Common applied to the Society asking for £210 for a skip to help clear the allotment site, creating more space for the gardeners to expand and grow more produce.
A clearer site will also make the allotments more inviting to families, allowing Vale Common to develop stronger ties with local residents who may not have visited the allotments previously.
Gillian Welch, Secretary of the Allotment and Gardeners’ Society, said “We needed to clear our allotment ready for spring 2018 so that we can have more space to grow new plants. With our newly cleared site, we can start to invite more local families to visit the allotment and learn how to successfully grow fruit and veg for themselves.
Without the donation from The Mansfield Building Society, we wouldn’t have been able to clear the site in time for spring, we can’t thank them enough.”
The donation was made through the Society’s Community Support Scheme which funds local groups and organisations in Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire and meets twice yearly in May and November to consider applications. To find out more or to download an application form click here.
